A Visionary Invention

Josh Silver, a professor of physics at Oxford University, has stolen my heart. I have no idea who he really is or what he looks like, but I love him because he has invented the most brilliant thing I’ve heard of in a long time: affordable glasses that use water to adjust the strength of the lenses.

So, how does it exactly work? With glasses, the thicker the lens is, the more powerful the magnification. Silver’s glasses have a little sack of water in them; with a syringe, the wearer is able to add or reduce amount of fluid according to their needs. No need for an expensive optometrist. GENIUS!

Silver’s goal is to distribute 1 billion glasses to the world’s poorest people by 2020. It’s the perfect synthesis of brains, creativity and humanitarian efforts. Amazing and admirable.
