Last Friday, I went to the Target Fashion Week party in New York to celebrate the Alexander McQueen for Target collection. Target has done an amazing job choosing designers like Thakoon to create affordable fashion for the masses, but the store has hit the bulls-eye (get it? hehe!) with the fashion forward McQueen, known for his provocative and innovative designs. Celebrities like Whitney Port, Amanda Bynes and Brittany Snow showed up on the red carpet, but between the clothes and the free appetizers, I barely noticed these starlets.
The huge space was filled with stations of McQueen's clothing. My first instinct was to grab everything (I call this the greedy GIMMEGIMMEGIMME strategy), but after some internal dialog and careful editing, I ended up with a few of my favorite pieces from the collection. The line hits stores on March 4th. If you're like me, you'll have trouble selecting your purchases, but here are my suggestions! Zigzag-Print Gathered Dress in Grey/Black ($69.99) At $70, it's a little pricey for Le Target, but this dress is so cute, it's worth it. I saw my friend Alison try it on and it looks more luxe than its price tag indicates. With its one strap look, it reminds me of a high fashion, sexier version of Wilma Flintstone. Boys will be hollering, "Yabba-dabba-doo!"
Solid Zip Leggings in Black ($29.99) To me, nothing beats a pair of comfy leggings. These ones are incredibly soft and have zippers up the side for nice detailing (which look very cute when unzipped a bit to show a little ankle). Unlike some leggings I've bought, these are thick enough not to look like tights; you can throw an over-sized shirt over them, without looking like you forgot to put on your dress/skirt.
Zigzag-Print Silk Scarf in Pink and Black ($29.99) I love this pattern. You can buy it in dress, scarf or legging form. However, if you are a little wary of wearing a hot pink tiger stripe dress, I suggest buying the scarf to spice up an otherwise drab outfit. Bonus: it's big enough to use as a cover up for the beach, too!
