In honor of New York Fashion Week, I Heart Daily is devoting the next five days to all things stylish. Casey Lewis, 21, from Palmyra, Missouri, runs one of our favorite fashion blogs: Teen Fashionista. From her posts about sites she loves, raves about new lines to covet, and musings about whether Ralph Lauren watches "Gossip Girl", we simply heart Casey. So we asked her to tell us a little more about herself. Why/when/how did you start blogging? Junior high boredom. I grew up in a town so small that I could not buy shoes or Vogue within the city limits. I would spend hours upon hours pouring over the pages of my favorite magazines (subscriptions were a necessity!) and websites. I started a blog because I just had to get my thoughts out about the designers, stores, starlets, and shoes that I adored so much. What began as a diary of sorts blossomed into so much more. As a journalism student at the University of Missouri, I spend most of my time studying and the rest of my time writing--for websites, for newspapers, and, most often, for class.
Who are your favorite designers? I like designers who create clothes that are fantastically girlie with a touch of that boyish Chuck Bass preppiness, probably because I spent my youth pining for a school uniform. Philip Lim, Marc Jacobs, Sam Shipley & Jeff Halmos (Shipley & Halmos), Scott Sternberg (Band of Outsiders) and Jenni Kayne design things that strike a happy balance between bows and blazers.
Favorite places/ways to shop? Because I'm from such an itty-bitty town, I will always be faithful to online shopping. Clicking through everything from Shopbop to Gap has become such second nature to me that I'll find myself "window" shopping instead of writing term papers. Great for my closet; not great for my grades. Some of my favorite bookmarked boutiques are Anthropologie, J. Crew, Urban Outfitters, and Net-A-Porter when I'm in the mood to daydream.
What's on your wish list right now? While I need a great pair of boots to survive this Midwestern winter, I keep finding myself buying flats instead. I have my eye on a cool pair of Frye's, but I'm much more tempted by the understated Lanvin skimmers. Time will only tell which one wins. Who are your style muses? Lately, I've been looking to the Gossip Girls, both on and off screen, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Zooey Deschanel. The Olsen twins are a mainstay. I have been crazy for Mary Kate and Ashley ever since their "Two of a Kind" days (one of the most underrated shows ever).
What's the best reader comment you've ever gotten? This sounds dorky, but I am genuinely excited every time I see a comment. When someone is inspired enough to take the time to say something, I'm on cloud nine. Most recently, I was completely blown away when I asked for winter break book recommendations and got some of the most thoughtful, intelligent responses imaginable.
Thanks, Casey! You heard her--the girl loves comments. Go visit.
