Vegan-Friendly Footwear

I've been a vegetarian for the past 13 years. Though I still consume dairy and eggs (and, er,  the occasional spicy tuna roll), I have always admired my vegan friends who have the to turn a blind eye to a hunk of brie. The willpower! However, I realized I own several pair of vegan-friendly shoes! That counts for something, right? Get the image of hemp and canvas out of your head, because here are three brands that are stylish, durable and comfy.

1. Melissa (pictured). This Brazilian company makes their shoes out of a magical recyclable plastic material called "MelFlex." They even recycle last season's shoes to make next season's collection. Comfortable and waterproof, Melissa shoes come in a ton of different colors and styles.

2. TOMS. I couldn't live without my Toms. I can walk all day in these puppies, without a single complaint from my feet. In addition to being eco-conscious, for every pair of TOMS shoes you buy, a pair is donated to a child in need. Pretty incredible.

3. Marais. When I bought my Chelsea boots, I had no idea they were vegan until the salesperson told me. Now, I'm eyeing a second pair -- these adorable cut-out flats.
