Watch It, Read It: Bloody Red Heart

You guys may have noticed that every other Thursday, we have guest writers -- the esteemed authors of RED: Teenage Girls in America Write On What Fires Up Their Lives Today. Well, now our very own RED Hearts writers can add "playwright" to their resumes. Bloody Red Heart is a stage adaptation of monologues inspired by Red: The Book and essays by Los Angeles-area teens. The show features eight actresses, ages 19 to 22. These are real teen voices being dramatized by young actors. The topics range from lunch lines to foster care to the indignities of gym class and the pain of divorce.

If you're in the LA area, we highly recommend that you check it out. The show runs at the Odyssey Theatre in Los Angeles (Thurs-Sat, 8pm; Sat & Sun 2pm, through November 21st).

And if you're not nearby, pick up the book and read these powerful essays for yourself -- you'll find at least one that makes you want to do a monologue in your bedroom. These young authors inspire.
