NightLight is an international organization that helps sexually exploited women and children transform their lives. Through alternative employment and life-skills training, NightLight assists women, men and children who have been negatively impacted by the sex industry. Trafficking of humans is the second-largest criminal industry in the world -- and each year, an estimated 15,000 foreign nationals are trafficked into the United States (that's not including the 20,000 US citizens trafficked within the country, according to a US Department of Justice report).
It's a huge problem, but you can help: NightLight offers a few ways to get involved, the simplest being by purchasing jewelry from the shop, which is designed and made by women from Bangkok who were formerly in the sex trade industry. Our favorites: The Bird's Nest Bracelet ($19, pictured) features pink freshwater pearls among layers of bronze chains, the Wood and Shell Necklace ($26) has wooden beads with glowing shells in blue, green and amber, and the Cluster Earrings ($19) show off a spray of bronze, teal and golden seed beads on a silver chain.
Each purchase provides direct support for these artisans, who've found a new way to support their families. Want to do more? NightLight runs offices in Bangkok, Atlanta and Los Angeles where internships are offered. Find more information here.
