Chic and Cheap(er): The Fisherman Sweater

Mmmm. Fall. Sweaters. And speaking of which, I've been coveting this Alexa Chung for Madewell fisherman-knit sweater. It's the epitome of cozy chic and I love it -- but not enough to pay $140. So, I did what every budget-conscious fashionista does: I scoured Etsy's vintage section for something similar. The results? Etsy never lets me down! Here are three sweaters at a sweeter price.

Vintage Cream Acrylic Fisherman Sweater ($32, pictured). In a soft acrylic knit with a cable and diamond pattern, this sweater is going to look super cute with a pair of jeans and some penny loafers.

Little Fisherman Sweater ($57). For a more fitted look, try this cream sweater. It's slightly cropped, which makes it perfect to wear with a skirt or high-waisted jeans.

Irish Aran Wool Fisherman Sweater ($58). This roomy Aran sweater is over-sized for a roomier fit; give it a different look by belting it. Plus, the listing includes a great explanation of why they're called fisherman sweaters: "Traditionally, an Aran wool sweater came from the Aran Islands, where there are many little fishing villages off the West Coast of Ireland. The wool is from the sheep in the region, and is naturally full of lanolin, and so it's very water resistant. The Irish fishermen wore them as excellent protection from the cold wet climate." Ah, knowledge!
