Do you listen to music while you eat? While you walk? While you drive? While you read? Um, we do. We pretty much listen to music all the time. Turns out that some of your favorite authors write with a soundtrack in their heads, loaded with songs that fit their plotlines, characters and settings. That's why, along with our friends at Figment, we've got a new contest for you. We've gathered playlists from some amazing authors (Madeleine George, Nina LaCour, Lisa McMann, Sarah Ockler, Matthew Quick, Robin Wasserman, Alecia Whitaker, Michelle Zink, and me, Melissa Walker, to name a few). Get inspired by these mixes and then take this on:
Your challenge: put together a six-song playlist for your favorite book, published in any year. Write a brief introduction for your overall list and, for each song, write two or three sentences about why you chose it.
What will one lucky song assembler win? An iPod Shuffle loaded with songs from the authors' playlists (up to $50 worth). You will never be without great music again. EVER.
Read the full guidelines here (and official rules too). You have until February 27, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. EST to post your entry on Figment. Voting will run until March 5, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. EST, at which point Anne and I will choose one winner among the 10 most-hearted entries!
