Read It: 3 Books With Real Heart

I love action/adventure in my reading material (I'm currently working my way through the Game of Thrones series of epic fantasy novels, uh, because I like the HBO show), but I'm also a fan of True Moments. That sounds like a line of cheesy figurines or something, but what I'm referring to are those instances in books where you're like, "I've felt that. I KNOW what this is like." These three books? They deliver The Real.

The Difference Between You and Me by Madeleine George (pictured). Two girls in lust or love; one is out, one is in the closet. George gets the small (intimate, swoony, painful) moments exactly right.

Boy21 by Matthew Quick. A quiet, thoughtful basketball player with a secret sadness in his past is assigned to watch over the new kid on the team -- a star athlete who suffered a tragedy and now insists he's an alien. This book will make you cry the good kinds of tears.

The List by Siobhan Vivian. Who's on the list of Prettiest and Ugliest girls in the school this year? Eight girls, each of whom is affected differently and in a very authentic way. You'll care about every single one of them.
