Shelley Tibbetts has been helping out as a member of Team I Heart Daily, and she's written about everything from crafty DIY style ideas to a movement to get More Love Letters out into the world. Follow her on Twitter -- she's always full of news and happy links. Her latest post covers a very cool way that you can make a difference in a girl's life:
Exercise does the mind and body good. And this spring, thanks to She’s the First, a non-profit that sponsors the education of girls in developing nations (remember their tie-dye cupcakes?), we can add the world to that list! Inspired by Erin and Brooke’s successful 26 Miles for 26 Girls fundraiser, the Run the World campaign is here!
Are you in? Choose to run a race or organize a fitness fundraiser by June 30th and create a Causevox page for your family and friends to match your miles or minutes.
Each donation will get She’s the First closer to its goal of raising $50,000 to sponsor 100 girls attending the organization’s partner schools in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, India, Nepal and Guatemala. In these countries the rate of enrollment for girls in secondary school is 33%, which means only one out of every three female students is getting the opportunity to have a successful future.
All the resources you need to be a trailblazer for girls’ education are a step-by-step guide with fundraising tips, suggestions on how you can help if you’re not a runner, and a PicBadge to decorate social profiles. And don’t forget to tweet your own progress using #RunSTF!
P.S. Erin & Brooke will be running 26.2 miles for She’s the First later this week during The Georgia Marathon in Atlanta! That calls for a Twitter cheerleading squad – root for them with #26Miles26Girls.
