Full disclosure: My latest young adult novel, Unbreak My Heart, came out in paperback today (enter to win a signed copy)! It's got a new purple cover and a whole lot of on-the-water summer love. Add that one -- plus these others that we've read and loved lately -- to your beach bag for eclectic summer reading: Colin Fischer by Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz. When Colin, a 14-year-old boy who suffers from Asperger's syndrome, discovers a mystery at school, he will have to navigate unlikely social paths to solve it. His voice and heart, plus the unique way Colin experiences the world, will keep you glued to the pages.
If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch. Okay, so maybe this one is for a rainy summer day, because it's a dark and gritty tale of two sisters who are left to live in the woods by a neglectful mother. When their father finds them, the path home is filled with heartache and tears, plus a heaping of redemption that made me want to hug this book when I finished reading.
The Boyfriend App by Katie Sise. A completely fun and funny romp through the world of the geeky-cool as super-smart Audrey invents an app that creates insta-love possibilities for everyone with a "BuyPhone." Hilarious repercussions and sweet resolutions make this one a perfect sunny-day read.
