The age of mixtapes is over, but that doesn't mean we can't get all nostalgic about it. I still have a box of mixes made by my friends, my exes and my wish-they-were-more-than-friends friends (whose song lists I read into with particular longing). The act of sitting and choosing songs for sides A and B (and then meticulously pressing "record" on one of those double-sided boomboxes) showed lots of love. Now there's a new way to give a similar show of affection: The Milktape.
Milktapes ($15) are cassette tape-shaped cases that hide a pop-out USB drive that lets users upload about 15 songs. It's easy to drag and drop from iTunes, so this won't take you hours and hours like the old way, but it still shows a lot of heart. Bonus: You can decorate the iconic tape with sharpies, stickers, song titles, doodles -- whatever your pleasure.
Then, give it to someone you care about and say these words: "I made you a mix." Music to my ears!
