The Best Late-Summer Sunscreens

la rocheYes, we're on the way to fall, but we must remain vigilant with sunscreen! We talked to Dr. Macrene Alexiades-Armenaka, the Director of Dermatology and Laser Surgery Center on Park Avenue (a swank NYC private practice. Ooh!) to get her best tips for keeping your sunscreen game tight.  The start: "Use an oil-free sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or higher."

People tend to under-apply if they use a high-priced sunscreen so Dr. Macrene recommends buying sunscreens that are specifically for the face or body (use the pricier one for your face). Her picks: Skinceuticals SPF 50 Physical FusionNeutrogena Clear Face Liquid Lotion Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 55 and La Roche Posay Mineral SPF 50 (pictured).

"Water resistant sunscreens work just as well as regular sunscreens and also last longer (try Neutrogena Wet Skin Sunscreen Spray Broad Spectrum SPF 50)."

"Remember to apply your sunscreen at least a half hour before going out into the sun so it can absorb into your skin." (This one, unlike the "wait an hour after eating before swimming" thing, is not an old wives' tale.)

Happy last days of summer!
