Just two years ago, the United Nations declared October 11th (that's tomorrow) to be International Day of the Girl. The UN has said, “Girls face discrimination and violence every day across the world. The International Day of the Girl Child focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.” This year's theme is "Empowering Adolescent Girls: Ending the Cycle of Violence," and we are all in favor of this day. Here are some of our favorite organizations that honor girls' and children around the world -- they could all use your input and enthusiasm, so check them out:
♥ Girl Summit. Support this global conference that shines a light on the human rights abuses of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Child, Early and Forced Marriage (CEFM).
♥ She's the First. Have you seen the banners around the newsletter this month? They're urging you to join up to bake some tie-dye cupcakes and help this incredible organization support girls all over the globe who need help with getting an education.
♥ PENpals. Help amazing girl Olivia Stinson make sure the kids of incarcerated parents have books to read and hope for the future.
