I've always been in awe of people who get up on stage and read, passionately, their own poetry. I mean, forget bungee jumping -- that takes guts. That's why I'm applauding this trio of teen girls, Belissa Escobedo, Rhiannon McGavin and Zariya Allen. They're all members of Get Lit, a nonprofit in Los Angeles that empowers, teaches and inspires teens through literature and poetry.
Their original piece "Somewhere In America" wasn't just performed at some open mic, but on national television on the Queen Latifah Show. Watch them flawlessly recite this poem that touches on relevant and controversial issues -- race, banned books, money, sexism, education, inequality -- that affect today's teens. Bravo.
