The beauty game is a fun, albeit confusing one. With all the information that's being flung at us about parabens, petro-things and synthetics, I'll admit -- I'm confused about what I'm supposed to put on my body. I need help... And I've found it! I've come across a very handy guide. It's the site of the Environmental Working Group, a non-profit whose mission is to "empower people to live healthier lives in a healthier environment." They have no agenda except to give us The Information, so whatever they report is completely unbiased (read: no pay-for-review).
Its Skin Deep beauty guide rates products from 1 -10 based on what's safe for you (1 = slather it on; 10 = stay away!). From shampoos to lotions to perfumes -- it covers the gamut. Last night I looked up sunscreens for my upcoming trip to Mexico, and decided on this tube of Badger, which comes in with a pretty score of 1.
I even searched for some of my routine everyday products to see how they stacked up, and let's just say... I'll be throwing some things out. Happy researching!
